Introduction and Practice Profile

Akira Nakai is a partner at Yodoyabashi & Yamagami LPC, based in the firm's Osaka and Tokyo offices. His practice covers a broad range of cross-border and domestic matters, including corporate governance, intellectual property, immigration-related matters, real estate and environmental issues, international transactions, dispute resolution, family and inheritance matters, and international family matters. He has particular experience in legal matters involving Greater China, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Since returning from study and secondment to a local law firm in China, Akira has focused his practice on China-related legal work. Through this international practice, he has developed extensive experience in both commercial and private disputes and corporate legal issues across Japan and Greater China. In recent years, he has also been increasingly involved in advising Chinese-speaking clients in Japan, particularly in the context of the growing inbound market. He is committed to finding practical and effective solutions from the client's perspective.

Akira graduated from Kyoto University, Faculty of Law, and later completed language studies at East China Normal University in Shanghai. After registering as an attorney in 2006, he worked at Kings & Wood's Shanghai office, Lee and Li in Taipei, and Henry Wai & Co. in Hong Kong before returning to Japan in 2013. He has served as a part-time lecturer in Chinese law at Kobe University Graduate School of Law since 2015 and also holds appointments as an outside director and auditor.

He is active in arbitral and mediation work, serving as an arbitrator of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association and a mediator at the General Conciliation Center. He has written extensively on Chinese law, international dispute resolution and inbound business law, and regularly lectures on contract drafting, Asian legal practice, joint research and development arrangements, and cross-border business issues.
